About CHA

Cryptoville High Alumni (CHA) is a collection of 10,000 unique collectible digital characters living on the Ethereum blockchain with proof of ownership. The collection comprises mostly of characters that are algorithmically generated from over 230 possible traits, including hair style, headwear, eye expression, eyewear, beard, and neck accessory. In addition, there is a very small set of 105 super-rare, handcrafted characters that also share some of the common traits. All alumni are dope and one of a kind, but still, some are more exceptional than the others, even though their creation is purely algorithmic.

The 10,000 alumni are stored as ERC-721 non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Ethereum blockchain and hosted on IPFS -- a decentralized storage system, which guarantees the eternal existence of the digital characters. Each alumni can only be officially owned by a single person at any time. To be the first owner of these characters, you must mint either a revealed or unrevealed token on this official site at a fixed cost, except the handcrafted ones -- the premium tokens. Once minted, characters can then be acquired from the current owners via the secondary marketplace, where owners can offer their characters for sale or bidding and buyers can make offers to acquire characters that are not even listed for sale or in auction.

Our Alumni by the Numbers

The CHA community is a well diverse group of high-achievers from the metaverse who show and care about human spirit in the Web 3 era. Although they don't care about the numbers the most, here are some about them.

Frequently Asked Questions

The following details should be good enough to clear your doubts. We suggest that you carefully go over them all before minting even if you don't have any questions at the moment.

How do I know your smart contract is secure and reliable?

Yes, it is! The smart contract is verified on Etherscan.io, where you can see the exact actual code that governs the transactions of the entire NFT collection. You can find an external link to the verified smart contract code in the About section on the homepage.

What kind of digital art are your characters presented?

Static image, in pixel art style. But there's a little more about that. Each character is uniquely identified by 1,024 screen pixels arranged as a 32x32 image, which is way too small to the naked eye. However, this is the smallest physical format possible for each character being distinguishable and the unique membership ID numbers are derived from them. To make the digital art really viewable and even printable without losing the pixel art style, each token indeed stores a high resolution version of 512x512 pixels in size, in addition to the raw format. So, each token owner actually owns two images of the same creative art piece.

How do I know if you didn't pull the rug and I've gotten the exact same character as advertised?

Check out the image in raw format from the IPFS using the URI given by the "image121" field in the metadata of your token. Then, compute the hash of it using the SHA256 algorithm. You'll get the associated membership ID that is recorded on the token and indicated on the official site.

I can't access the images on IPFS. How come?

Most of the commonly used browsers doesn't provide native support for the IPFS protocol. For example, URIs starting with "ipfs://" don't work on Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge, and you need to choose an IPFS gateway that uses the HTTPS protocol to get the image delivered to your browser. Different providers use different URI formats. An easy one would be the Pinata's, which takes the form "https://gateway.pinata.cloud/ipfs/<CID>". Another possible choice is nft.storage, but it takes a little bit more copy and paste to format the URI. (DISCLAIMER: We're affiliated with neither Pinata nor nft.storage to promote their services.)

How many kinds of tokens are you actually offering?

All alumni are identified by the same kind of NFT that is compliant with the ERC-721 standard. The CHA tokens are however initially split into two categories: "revealed tokens" identifying characters that can be seen before minting vs. "unrevealed tokens" mapping the hidden characters that can only be seen after minting. Among the 8,000 revealed tokens, the first 105 of them are "premium tokens" that match the handcrafted characters and are minted by the creator at contract deployment. Finally, a maximum of 895 of the other revealed tokens are reserved for promotional giveaways and team rewards. However, they may be released for sale, auction, or minting at the discretion of the creator. The "reserved tokens" have IDs numbered 106 through 1000 and the underlying characters are algorithmically generated.

When will the 2,000 hidden characters be revealed?

A hidden character will be revealed right after each successful minting of an initially unrevealed tokens. They're just part of the collection and will therefore appear in the official collection on OpenSea.io once being minted.

The alumni that I want to own have already been minted. Does it mean I'll never get them?

Don't be sad. Minted tokens can be traded in the secondary market on Opensea.io via fixed price sales or auctions. If they weren't offered for sale, simply make an offer to the owner.

How much does it cost for minting a token?

0.05 eth for a revealed token, 0.02 eth for an unrevealed token.

Which wallets do you support?

On mobile, MetaMask and many others. On desktop, MetaMask only. You'll be asked to connect to your wallet when you're about to mint a token. To disconnect your wallet with our app, on mobile, you can tap the highlighted wallet icon at the top right corner. On desktop, this is done for you when you close the browser tab. If you're a newbie to the crypto space, we suggest that you take advantage of the built-in onboarding process on desktop that will help you setup Metamask to work with your browser and create a new externally owned account (EOA) on the Ethereum blockchain if you don't have one yet.

Is there a place to buy off of secondaries?

Sure! The Cryptoville High Alumni collection is officially listed on the largest NFT marketplace OpenSea.io. All minted (and hence revealed) tokens are visible within the official collection and are eligible to be traded securely on the platform.

What are your royalty fees?

5% on any secondary sale, payable by the seller.

What's the giveaway special offer all about? Is it real?

It certainly is real. On one hand, we'd like to make our NFTs more price friendly for those new-comers to the crypto space to possess their first ever NFT. As such, we decided to have the 8:2 split in terms of revealability and introduce a differential pricing. On the other hand, we'd like to share the excitement of discovering the hidden characters with the revealed token minters as a gesture of goodwill for their willingness of paying a premium to show appreciation of and support for a revealed character. As such, we came up with the stock limited giveaway reward scheme and embedded it into the smart contract. Yes, it's also decentralized and the distribution is immediate -- we've no control over the distribution except the rules already carved in stone (... well, we mean the smart contract).

When will the giveaway special offer end?

As soon as all of the 2,000 unrevealed tokens are minted.

What will happen to any unrevealed tokens that have remained unminted for a long time?

We hope not, but we do have a contingency plan. In that case, we may decide to turn some or all of the unminted, unrevealed tokens into revealed tokens for minting on this site. Such an incremental supply mechanism is embedded into the smart contract.

Why didn't I get the giveaway token but my friend did when she minted a revealed token an hour after I did?

That might be due to the safety mechanism for protecting the unrevealed token owners before we incrementally supply more revealed tokens (see the FAQ above). Before supplying more revealed tokens for minting, we'll pause the minting of unrevealed tokens, in order to avoid a "head-on collision" that may took away the ownership from the existing legit owner. The suspension status will be indicated in the relevant minting interface. If you minted a revealed token during the suspension, you wouldn't be rewarded an unrevealed token even if the stock lasted and you were eligible. It's possible but unlikely or rare in the worst case. In summary, the mishap can be avoided.

Why do you need to pause minting of unrevealed tokens?

The short answer is to ensure the integrity of token ownership. Please see the FAQ above for details. Above all, you should pay attention to any notification shown in the minting interface, especially before minting a revealed token and if you don't wanna miss the giveaway offer.
